The Egg Donation
Process & Timeline

Three stages. Clear guidance at every step.

Your journey with Ovita Donor Solutions begins with intake, continues into matching, and moves into a donation cycle once a match is confirmed. After completing a donation, eligible donors who wish to donate again can return to matching without restarting the entire intake process.

STAGE 3

Timing is individual. Review each stage below for its timeline and requirements.

01

Stage 1: Intake

Getting to know you

Timeline: Varies based on application review, records, and scheduling

Intake is how we get to know you—and how you learn whether egg donation is right for you. You’ll complete an application, share your personal and family health history, and speak with our team about your background, availability, and expectations. If you’ve donated before, we’ll also request information about your previous donation cycles.

This is your opportunity to ask questions about the commitment, compensation, appointments, and potential travel.

Once your intake is complete and your profile is approved, you’ll move into the matching stage.

Stay connected after intake. Keep Ovita informed of changes to your health, contact information, availability, and donation history. An accurate, current profile helps us coordinate potential matches and next steps.

02

Stage 2: Matching

Finding a potential match

Timeline: Varies based on your availability and matching requests; a match is not guaranteed

Stage 3: Donation
Cycle

For every confirmed match

Timeline: Several weeks to a few months, depending on screening, legal preparation, and clinic scheduling

STEP 01

Medical Screening & Clearance

The fertility clinic reviews your current health and previous donation history. You’ll complete the screening and testing required for this cycle.

Previous medical clearance does not automatically carry over. The clinic determines which tests and evaluations must be completed or updated before you can proceed.

STEP 02

Legal Preparation

You’ll review the agreement for this match with an independent attorney representing your interests. The agreement addresses matters such as compensation, covered expenses, responsibilities, privacy, and future contact.

Required legal clearance must be completed before treatment begins.

STEP 03

Medication & Monitoring

Your clinic provides a personalized treatment calendar and instructions for your medications. You’ll take prescribed hormone injections and attend monitoring appointments so the medical team can track your response.

Your medication plan and appointment schedule may change from one donation to the next.

STEP 04

Egg Retrieval

When your eggs are ready, your clinic will provide instructions for a precisely timed trigger injection and schedule your retrieval.

Egg retrieval is typically an outpatient procedure performed with sedation or anesthesia. Follow your clinic’s instructions for preparation, transportation, and support afterward.

STEP 05

Recovery & Follow-Up

After retrieval, allow time to rest and follow your clinic’s aftercare instructions. Attend recommended follow-up appointments and contact your medical team about any concerning symptoms.

Your clinic will assess your recovery and advise whether—and when—another donation may be appropriate.

After Your Cycle

What Happens After a
Donation Cycle?

If you wish to donate again and remain eligible, you return to Stage 2: Matching. Keep your profile and availability updated while waiting for your next match.

Once another match is confirmed, Stage 3 repeats: medical screening and clearance, legal preparation, medication and monitoring, egg retrieval, and recovery.

Your first donation:

  • STAGE 1Intake
  • STAGE 2Matching
  • STAGE 3Donation Cycle

Each additional donation:

  • STAGE 2Matching
  • STAGE 3Donation Cycle

Each cycle requires medical approval. Completing one donation does not guarantee eligibility for another, and you are not required to complete all six.
